Objectives

The Indian Geological Congress relentlessly strives to achieve the following objectives enshrined in its Memorandum & Articles of Association: Some of the more significant objectives include:-

 

To encourage, co-ordinate and promote the activities of advanced      study and research  in all  branches of earth sciences with      special emphasis on problems of Indian Geology.

To collaborate and co-operate with various national and international       institutions related to the study of earth sciences to further the      objectives, stated above.

To establish and maintain a research and reference library in      pursuance of  the objectives of the Congress. .

To organise biennial sessions of the Congress at different places in      India for presentation, discussion and dissemination of the results of      studies related to problems of earth sciences,  those of India in      particular .

To publish bulletins, monographs, memoirs, transactions, etc., dealing      with earth science problems .

To organise meetings, seminars, symposia, workshops, discussion      forums, special discussions on topics of geological, and otherwise of      academic interest

To constitute awards, medals, prizes, etc., in the name of IGC or      other sponsoring organisations and individuals, as may be identified      and  accepted by the  Executive Council of the Congress.

To represent at international levels, scientific contributions and views      on matters of geology of India.

About Us

Setting-up was initially heralded in 1976 by Late Prof. A.G. Jhingran for holding biennial conventions as fora for scientific discussions and dissemination of scientific knowledge in the field of geosciences.
